The GE.N.ESIS project has been presented at the conference ''Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities: Diving in the Past. Underwater archaeological research 1976 - 2014'' at the Acropolis Museum (Athens, 6th of March 2015). The GE.N.ESIS Project results are made public

The survey results present a geographically synthesised imagery of the prehistoric settlement ruins, the ancient harbour and its submerged breakwater, wrecks and cannons of the site, as well as seabed and sub-seabed features/artefacts of potential archaeological interest.

Numerous sidescan sonar features of potential interest were recorded and sidescan mosaics of the ancient harbour, breakwater and the prehistoric settlement were created. Magnetic anomalies of the site were mapped, through which potential targets were validated or detected. Seismic profiles of sub-seabed features and the settlement were created and antiquities of major archaeological interest were precisely positioned. All data was synthesised on a GIS.

The project results can be accessed under the 'Publications' page.

Methoni's underwater antiquities are revealed by the power of echo

After finishing the fieldwork for the GE.N.ESIS Project, the research team is proud to have thrown light on the underwater antiquities off Methoni. The ancient harbour and submerged breakwater are fully revealed together with the prehistoric submerged town of Methoni. Wrecks and cannons as well as parts of a medieval stone fresh-water pipeline along the surf and coastal zone are also visualised through a Geographic Information System. Stay in touch for more results.
